“Your First Time”: Sexual Politics with Lena Dunham

Posted by

Have you seen Lena Dunham’s recent video plug for Obama’s re-election? “Your First Time” aims at wrangling young (specifically female) voters by suggestively playing on the idea of a woman’s first time voting as something significant, something that brings you into womanhood. Dunham tells her audience: “Your first time shouldn’t be with just anybody. You want to do it with a great guy…someone who really cares about and understands women. Someone who cares about whether you get health insurance, specifically whether you get birth control.”

Take a look and tell us what you think. Quirky, smart and funny? Or inappropriate, embarrassing and juvenile? The public’s response seems to be all over the place. What do you think?
