I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to talk about JK Rowling without referencing magic in some way, but I’m trying (no I’m not), so forgive me for the title. This week, JK Rowling and publisher Little, Brown revealed the cover for Rowling’s forthcoming book The Casual Vacancy. The book will be released the 27th of September, 2012. Rowling will try her to use her magic (I’m sorry…) on adults for the first time, which shouldn’t be a problem because most of her original Harry Potter fans are now adults.
Little, Brown describes the novel, which is 512 pages, as “a big book about a small town.” Here are a few more details:
When Barry Fairbrother dies in his early forties, the town of Pagford is left in shock.
Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war.
Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils… Pagford is not what it first seems.
And the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity, and unexpected revelations?
Do you think JK Rowling will be able to cast her spell on her grown-up audience?
Does the magic live on?
Alright, fine, I’m done.
